Steve Miller, Senior Pastor of Maumee Valley Church and retired police officer will be our special guest Tuesday February 19th at 7:00. Those of my students who would like to hear the great info PS has are welcome to join us. Cost for the special event is one non-perishable donation to the local Food Pantry. Come on out and learn from a long time police veteran!
Use your Voice. First and foremost, you need to make it clear to potential aggressors that you have boundaries and if they are crossed, you will defend yourself. "No", "stop", "don't touch me", and "don't come any closer" said in a loud and commanding tone (think your best "Bad Dog" voice) can dissuade the less committed. Additionally, if you do get in an altercation, it is IMPERATIVE that you get as loud as possible. I tell students all the time, "If you fight silently, you fight alone". Use your voice, and help could be just around the corner. Due to our instructor being out of town for the weekend, we will not be having class on Friday FEBRUARY 8th. Sorry for the inconvenience. We will have a make up class at a future date IF AND ONLY IF I have some people inform me that they are interested in doing so! Stop being a bleeding heart for every Tom Dick and Harry that comes your way. We as Christians often suffer from this problem. Because service and giving are apart of us, we often make our selves vulnerable to those who wish us ill will. If you think I am leading you astray, look at the serial killer Ted Bundy. He preyed on the kindness of strangers to make them vulnerable to him. If you feel guilt about not giving to the next street peddler you happen upon, donate to your favorite charity as soon as you get home. Do not take out your wallet or go digging in your purse on a street corner in plain view of everyone! Use your head and BE SAFE! Stop sitting in your car and organizing your life with the doors open! When you get in the vehicle, close and lock your doors. Leaving the door open, doing your makeup, choosing a new song, making a phone call, or making entries in your checkbook leaves you vulnerable for a mugger or kidnapper to take advantage of the situation. Use your head, and stay safe! Stop putting your Christmas tree in the window. This is like a billboard to for those that may have coal earning things in mind. It shows them everything they need to know about the gifts you are giving (that they will be taking). Moreover it is a good indication to them if you are home or not... Allow your family to enjoy your tree , but out of the range of prying eyes. Your money or stuff is NEVER worth the life of you or your loved one. If all someone wants is your wallet or purse, give it to them. Money is not worth dying over. Remember: It is better to avoid than run, better to run than de-escalate, better to de-escalate than fight, better to fight than die. 1. Always be prepared to leave, BEFORE you leave the store. Walking through a dark parking lot digging in your pockets or purse is a good way to get mugged. Thieves don't want trouble, they want your stuff, as quickly and easily as possible. If you are distracted, then you are a target. 2. Leave the store with no more purchases than you can carry in one hand... otherwise, use a cart. The faster you can get in your car, the less likely you are to be the victim of a robbery. |
